Crispy Air Fryer Jalapeno Fries Recipe

Air fryer jalapeno fries become wonderfully crisp in the air fryer and make a crowd-pleasing snack or appetizer.

These fries use a simple breading—panko and egg—and the air fryer does the heavy lifting for a crunchy result without deep frying.

For dipping, I like a creamy, spicy sauce made by stirring together mayo and sriracha. If you prefer a milder dip, swap the mayo for ranch dressing or reduce the sriracha.

ingredients for the fries

How to make air fryer jalapeno fries

Start by removing the seeds and white ribs from two to three jalapeno peppers. The ribs are where most of the heat lives, so removing them tones down the spice. If you like more heat, leave some seeds in.

Slice the peppers into fry-shaped strips. Thinner strips crisp up faster, while slightly thicker slices stay juicier—either works depending on your preference.

Sliced jalapenos

Set up a simple breading station: crack one egg into a bowl and beat it lightly with a fork. In a separate bowl combine 3/4 cup panko bread crumbs with a pinch of kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Breading station by the air fryer

One at a time, dip each jalapeno strip in the beaten egg, then press into the panko so the crumbs stick well. Work in small batches so the egg doesn’t sit too long and make the panko soggy—quick breading keeps the coating light and flaky.

Place the breaded jalapeno fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket without too much overlap. Lightly spray the tops with olive oil cooking spray to encourage even browning.

Cook at 400°F (about 200°C) for 6 to 8 minutes, checking toward the end. Remove the fries as soon as they are golden brown and crisp. Air fryer models vary, so use the lower end of the time range for thinner slices and the higher end for thicker ones.

Serve these gorgeous air fryer jalapeno fries with the spicy mayo dipping sauce!

While the fries cook, whisk together 1/3 cup mayo (or ranch) with 1 to 2 tablespoons sriracha, adjusting the heat to taste. The creamy sauce balances the jalapeno’s brightness and adds a tangy kick.

Some fries will be mild and others can surprise you with a hotter bite if a seed slips through—this makes for a fun mix of heat levels. Serve immediately so the coating stays crisp; they are best eaten hot or warm.

These fries are kid-friendly if you remove most seeds, and my own 11-year-old loved them—evidence that even picky eaters can enjoy a mild version. Pair them with burgers, tacos, or enjoy as a standalone appetizer at parties.

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 jalapeno peppers
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup panko bread crumbs
  • Kosher salt and pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • 1/3 cup mayo or ranch dressing
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust for spice preference)

Instructions

  1. Remove the seeds and white ribs from the jalapeno peppers, then slice them into strips. Leave some seeds if you want more heat.
  2. Crack the egg into a bowl and beat with a fork. Put the panko in a separate bowl and season with kosher salt and pepper.
  3. Dip each jalapeno strip into the egg, then coat thoroughly with panko. Place the breaded strips in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Breading in small batches helps prevent soggy coating.
  4. Lightly spray the breaded jalapenos with olive oil cooking spray. Air fry at 400°F for 6 to 8 minutes, watching closely toward the end until golden brown and crispy.
  5. While the fries cook, mix mayo (or ranch) with sriracha to make the dipping sauce. Taste and adjust heat as needed.
  6. Allow the fries to cool slightly, then serve warm with the spicy dipping sauce.
