Equipment

  • Muddler
  • Tall glass
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Bar spoon or stirring spoon

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz Smirnoff Red, White & Berry Vodka
  • ½ cup fresh mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 8–10 fresh mint leaves
  • ¾ oz fresh lime juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup, or to taste
  • Soda water, to top
  • Ice

For garnish:

  • Fresh mixed berries
  • Fresh mint sprig
  • Lime wheel

Instructions

  1. Add the fresh mixed berries and simple syrup to a tall glass. Use a muddler to press the berries gently but firmly until they break down and release their juices. Aim to crush the fruit without pulverizing the seeds.
  2. Lightly clap or “slap” the mint leaves between your hands to wake up the oils, then add them to the glass along with the vodka and lime juice.
  3. Fill the glass with ice and top with soda water. Stir gently 2–3 times with a bar spoon to combine, taking care not to over-stir so the soda remains bubbly.
  4. Garnish with a few fresh berries, a sprig of mint, and a lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately while the drink is cold and fizzy.

Notes

  • Muddle the berries firmly but not aggressively—break them down enough to release flavor without pulverizing the seeds, which can add bitterness.
  • Use fresh lime juice for the best brightness and balance; bottled lime juice often tastes flat in this type of cocktail.
  • When adding mint, avoid bruising it heavily. Slapping the leaves releases aroma while keeping the leaves intact for garnish.
  • Top with soda water at the end and stir gently to preserve carbonation and the drink’s light, effervescent character.
  • Adjust sweetness by varying the simple syrup. Start with the suggested ½ oz and add a touch more if your berries are particularly tart.
  • To make a non-alcoholic version, omit the vodka and replace it with extra soda water and a splash of berry syrup or a mild fruit juice such as white grape or apple for body.
  • This recipe scales easily: prepare a pitcher by muddling larger quantities of berries and mint, then add vodka, lime, and syrup; keep soda separate and pour it in just before serving to maintain fizz.
  • For consistency across multiple servings, strain the muddled berry mixture through a fine mesh to remove large seeds if desired, then combine with the remaining ingredients.
  • Serve over plenty of ice to keep the drink chilled and refreshing for longer, especially on hot days.

Serving suggestions

The Mixed Berry Mojito pairs well with light snacks like fresh fruit platters, grilled seafood, or simple tapas. Its fruity, minty profile makes it an excellent choice for brunch, poolside gatherings, or summer evenings.

Storage

If preparing a batch in advance, keep the muddled berry and mint mixture refrigerated and combine with soda water only when ready to serve. Cocktails with fresh citrus and soda are best enjoyed immediately.
