Mojito Detox Water Recipe: Mint and Lime Infused Drink

I needed a simple, refreshing change—something to get me out of my raisin state: overly sweet, a little shriveled, and definitely dehydrated. The answer turned out to be an easy mojito-style detox water that’s fast to make and pleasantly satisfying. It’s essentially flavored water with a bright citrus note and cooling mint, and it finally got me drinking again even on days when I’d otherwise forget to hydrate.

I live in a place that feels like an oven right now, and for whatever reason I wasn’t reaching for a glass of water. To fix that, I decided to infuse a bottle with lemon and mint and leave it in the fridge so it would be inviting. It worked: chilled, lightly flavored water is much more tempting than plain room-temperature tap water.

This is not a complicated recipe. The ingredients are few and straightforward:

  • lemons
  • mint
  • water

I prefer not to use whole lemon slices in my infusions because I’m picky about citrus peels. Instead I squeeze the lemon and strain out the seeds, then add a generous handful of mint sprigs. The mint I use is homegrown; if you’ve ever grown mint you know it behaves more like a fragrant, useful little weed than a high-maintenance plant. It’s forgiving and gives a fresh aroma and flavor with almost no effort.

Things To Keep In Mind

Make the batch fresh and drink it within 24 hours. After a day in the fridge the mint tends to lose its vivid green appearance and the flavor becomes weaker, so it’s best to prepare only what you’ll drink in a day or so. Keep the infused water chilled and refill or remake it as needed.

If you want a bit of sparkle, use carbonated water for a mocktail-style variant. The bubbly version is delightful for entertaining or just for when you want something a little fancier without added sugar. Use lime instead of lemon if that’s what you have on hand—traditional mojitos use lime, but both citrus fruits give a bright, tangy lift.

Benefits

The biggest benefit is simple: you’ll drink more water. Beyond hydration, lemon contributes vitamin C and a bright flavor that makes drinking water more enjoyable, while fresh mint adds antioxidants and a cooling sensation. Together they make a low-calorie, refreshing drink that replaces sugary beverages and can help you feel lighter and more energized throughout the day.

Personally, since I started sipping this infusion regularly I’ve noticed small practical improvements: I’ve felt more active, I’ve kept up with household tasks I’d been ignoring, and my mood has been better on average. It’s hard to prove cause and effect here—summer weather and general lifestyle changes probably help too—but having a tasty, ready-to-drink bottle of infused water definitely makes it easier to stay hydrated and keep energy steady.

Give it a try for a few days and see how you feel. It’s an easy switch that replaces sweet, caloric drinks with something clean, bright, and low in sugar.

PS: I love you. Also, if you discover that mojitos are traditionally made with lime—same idea. Use whichever citrus you prefer or have available.
