Product description

The SmartWash Pet XL is an upright carpet shampooer engineered for whole-room treatment and targeted spot work. It includes two removable tanks (clean and recovery) with an XL 96 oz. capacity to limit trips to the sink, and an 8-foot flexible hose that converts the machine into a spot cleaner for stairs, upholstery and tight spaces.

Key cleaning features include automatic wash-and-dry sensing that shifts between shampooing and extraction, a Spot Boost mode for stubborn areas, and HeatForce technology to accelerate drying. The unit also offers a self-cleaning tray that flushes hair and debris from the brush area and internal paths to help keep the machine ready for the next job.

Construction is typical of heavy-duty home cleaners: molded plastic housing, clear removable tanks for quick inspection, nylon brush bristles and rubber seals for water handling. The package contains a 7" 2-in-1 stair tool, a gentle upholstery tool, a max extraction tool, a nozzle cleanout tool, the 8-foot hose, the self-cleaning tray, two trial-size cleaning solutions and a storage bag. Operation is straightforward: fill the clean tank with water and solution, run the machine over carpets for wash and extraction, and use the hose and attachments for spot work and upholstery.

Pros

  • Automatic wash/dry sensing simplifies use
  • Large 96 oz tanks reduce refill trips
  • Self-clean cycle makes maintenance easier

Cons

  • Carpets can stay somewhat damp after use
  • Self-cleaning doesn't eliminate every stuck hair
  • Front assembly could press down harder to extract more water

VerdictA capable, user-friendly carpet shampooer that simplifies full-room and spot cleaning. Its automatic wash/dry sensing and self-clean cycle cut down on maintenance, the large 96 oz tank reduces refills, and HeatForce speeds drying. Not flawless — carpets can remain a bit damp and the self-clean function won’t remove every stray hair — but overall it’s a robust choice for pet households and frequent

Customer reviews

  1. Scrib 5/5

    Cleaning results speak for themselves

Well packed, easy to put together and it powered up with no leaks. I ran a wash, a rinse and two dry cycles and the water pulled out was surprisingly dirty despite a recent cleaning. I like that it dispenses solution without holding a trigger. It handled pet hair well but didn’t leave the carpet noticeably drier than my previous machine, so I’d rate it a solid performer rather than a dramatic upgrade. The self-clean cycle rinses and vacuums multiple times; I did remove the brush cover for a final manual clean.

  2. ccwriter 5/5

    Powerful home shampooer, solid value

Impressive cleaning strength and straightforward controls on the handle. The build feels sturdy and the detachable tanks are easy to remove and rinse. Brush and nozzle areas clear without fuss. Spot cleaning and a dry-only pass are useful extras. Very happy with how it performs.

  3. Marsha 5/5

A welcome upgrade from an older Hoover

After two decades with an older Hoover I replaced it with this model and noticed thoughtful redesigns. Electronics and the self-clean routine are helpful for pet owners, flushing hair and internal debris. It keeps the same hardworking cleaning performance but with modern conveniences and a stronger feature set for the money.

  4. Theodore Eric Schram 5/5

    Solid cleaner with helpful self-rinse

Does a very good job cleaning carpets, though it doesn’t offer a separate rinse — you mix solution in the tank and can run fresh water afterward if you want. The carpet can still be a bit wet after cleaning, but the self-clean feature cuts down on trapped pet hair. Overall, a reliable machine.

  5. Belinda G 4/5

    User-friendly and adaptable

Outperforms several other units I’ve tried. It’s easy to handle and simple to clean after use, with noticeably stronger suction. My only gripe is I’d like more downward pressure at the front to force water out of deep carpet fibers, but otherwise it’s a solid, versatile cleaner.

  6. Eileen Z. 5/5

Perfect for pets and quick room refreshes

We have multiple pets and wanted a unit to clean rooms on demand without calling pros. This one tackles whole rooms and big stains much faster than a small spot cleaner. It’s surprisingly simple: fill the marked tank with water and solution, press power and use forward to wash and pull back to extract. Spot mode concentrates power on trouble spots. Cleanup is easy.

  7. Nicholas 5/5

    Great upgrade for pet households

Longtime Hoover owner here — this model makes upkeep easier around cats. Pet hair used to get stuck in the bristles, but the clean-out/self-cleaning feature reduces that hassle. Maintenance feels less like another chore, and carpets come away feeling refreshed. Overall a definite improvement for pet owners.

  8. Howard Dunn 5/5

    Powerful, yet easy to maneuver

This unit outperforms competitors I’ve owned. Carpets are nearly dry when using the dry cycle and the self-rinse prepares the machine with minimal scrubbing. I cleaned several rugs and saw no residual water under them. I’m looking forward to using the hose for car interiors. So far very pleased.
