Product description

Overview
The Keychron Q6 Ultra 8K is a premium, full-size custom mechanical keyboard built around an aluminum frame and internal layers of acoustic foam to tame vibrations and improve sound. It ships as a fully assembled 104/105-key layout designed for desktop use and heavy daily typing.
What’s included
The package contains the Q6 Ultra full-size keyboard and the essential accessories to get started, including a USB-C cable and the tools needed for swapping keycaps and switches. The board comes configured out of the box with Keychron’s Silk POM switches installed.
Materials and construction
The case is machined metal with a dense base and added acoustic damping layers to reduce resonance. Keycaps and switch materials vary depending on the included set and pre-installed switches, but the plate and chassis emphasize solidity and weight for a premium, immovable typing surface.
Connectivity and performance
This model supports tri-mode operation: wired USB-C, low-latency 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth 5.3 for up to three paired devices. Both wired and 2.4 GHz modes run at an 8000 Hz polling rate for minimal input delay. Firmware is based on ZMK, and the Keychron Launcher web app provides per-key remapping, macro creation, and RGB control.
Hot-swap and switches
Keychron pre-installs Silk POM switches tuned for a quieter, smooth experience, but the PCB accepts almost all MX-style 3‑pin and 5‑pin switches (Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Panda, etc.) so you can swap without soldering. That flexibility makes this board a solid platform for modding.
Battery and lighting
Battery life varies by usage and lighting: with backlighting off at the 8 kHz polling rate you can expect very long runtimes (hundreds of hours), and with minimal illumination enabled endurance remains substantial. RGB is fully adjustable via the Launcher.
How it’s used
Designed for power users, the Q6 Ultra suits heavy typists, programmers, and gamers who want deep customization and a substantial typing feel. Use wired or 2.4 GHz for competitive responsiveness, or Bluetooth for multi-device workflows. Hot-swapping makes iterations of feel and sound simple without soldering.

Pros

  • Rigid aluminum chassis with acoustic dampening
  • Hot-swappable Silk POM switches and wide switch compatibility
  • Extensive customization via ZMK and web-based Launcher

Cons

  • Very heavy — not ideal for portability
  • RGB lighting may feel over-the-top for non-gamers
  • Steeper adjustment period for fast typists

VerdictThe Q6 Ultra 8K is a heavyweight, precision-focused full-size keyboard built for users who want extensive customization and a premium metal construction. Its ultra-high 8000Hz polling in wired and 2.4GHz modes delivers near-instant responsiveness, Bluetooth 5.3 supports multi-device pairing, and built-in programmability via ZMK and the Keychron Launcher makes remapping and macros straightforward.

  1. Dan 4/5

    Typing travel needs acclimation

I type quickly and found myself accidentally registering extra presses until I adjusted to the taller profile and deeper travel. The keyboard feels premium and provides good tactile feedback, though bottoming out is louder than some lighter boards. It’s pricey, but if you put in time to adapt, it rewards you.

  2. Scott 5/5

Solid and moddable but missing tilt feet

This is a hefty, capable keyboard that supports extensive mods. My only gripe is the lack of built-in adjustable feet — you need to add third-party pads or 3D-printed pieces for a steeper angle. Otherwise it’s a robust, versatile board that stands up to heavy use.

  3. Bryan Y. 5/5

Would give ten stars if possible

I upgraded from a long-used low-profile Logitech and am adjusting to the mechanical layout. The keys feel very different at first but the muted, dense sound and firm build appeal to me. It's a heavy desk keyboard and not aimed at portability. The RGB isn't my taste — too flashy for my home office — but the typing feel and solidity are what I wanted for personal use.

  4. Tyleel Daniels 5/5

Excellent build; swapping keys is simple

Arrived well packaged. Swapping between Mac and Windows keycaps was straightforward and the board has a satisfying weight to it. Setup for wired use was immediate; I haven't tried Bluetooth yet. Key action is responsive and pleasant — a solid value if you want a premium-feeling device.

  5. John M 3/5

    Good foundation for custom builds

I expected a deeper, 'thocky' sound and it didn't match that expectation, so I returned it and went the DIY route. Still, the board is very well built and works great as a base. For modders, the option to buy the platform and add your preferred switches and caps makes it a flexible choice.

  6. Jon Zuilkowski 1/5

    Major reliability problems — avoid

After weeks of fiddling it still dropped or repeated keystrokes intermittently. I went through troubleshooting steps and adjustments without success. The short return window left me stuck with a board that didn't behave reliably. Not recommended based on my experience.

  7. Scott 5/5

    Durable upgrade after unreliable keyboards

After several short-lived membrane boards I wanted something sturdier and this delivered. The build quality is notable and the backlighting looks clean despite not having shine-through legends. I chose tactile browns and they hit a good balance. I did encounter a sporadic double-press on one key out of the box, but the Launcher app offered helpful configuration options.

  8. Phil 5/5

Very enjoyable typing, lots of control

Switching from a low-profile Logitech, the height was noticeable but I adapted quickly. The overall typing feel is excellent and the browser-based Launcher makes adjusting behavior painless. So far I'm very pleased with the responsiveness and customization options.

  9. Shane Grojean 5/5

Fantastic feel — bought a second unit

This was my entry into mech keyboards and I liked it enough to get another. The brown switches provide satisfying tactile feedback without harsh clacks. Customization software is intuitive and I use wired mode to avoid battery worries. It has a solid mass on the desk and pairs nicely with a wrist rest for long sessions.
