Product description

Create a deeper, distraction-free scene in your tank with a matte black background film designed for glass aquariums. The sheet is produced from waterproof PVC that resists tears and wrinkles and features a low-reflective matte finish to reduce glare and enhance colors of fish, plants, rocks and ornaments.

The product relies on static-cling adhesion instead of glue. Apply it wet with the included spray bottle to position the film, smooth out bubbles with the supplied squeegee/scraper, and trim excess with the utility knife for a neat edge. Because it clings rather than bonds, you can lift and reposition the sheet as needed and remove it later without sticky residue on the glass.

Each package contains one back panel, packaged in a protective shipping tube, plus a small spray bottle, a rigid scraper/squeegee, a utility knife and printed installation instructions to help achieve a bubble-free finish. The film should be applied with the glossy side inward toward the glass; the matte face remains outward to hide background clutter.

Sizes are available to suit many aquarium types — common dimensions include 39" × 7.8", 39" × 11.8", 39" × 15.7", 39" × 17.7" (39" × 17.7" is the size here), 39" × 19.7" and 39" × 23.6" — and the material can be trimmed to fit freshwater tanks, planted displays, breeder setups, turtle tanks and decorative tanks. For best results, apply the film while the rear of the tank is accessible so you can smooth and trim without obstruction.

The combination of durable PVC and static-cling application makes this film a practical, long-lasting option for aquarists who want a professional-looking, uniform background without permanent adhesives.

Pros

  • Non-adhesive static cling for easy repositioning
  • Durable, waterproof PVC with matte finish
  • Includes tools for installation and protective tube

Cons

  • Small air pockets can remain if not smoothed perfectly
  • May be awkward to apply on tanks flush against a wall
  • Requires trimming and basic tools for a custom fit

VerdictThis matte black, static-cling aquarium film is an effective way to give tanks a cleaner, high-contrast backdrop without adhesives. The PVC material is durable and resists tearing and creasing, while the static-cling surface lets you reposition and remove the sheet without sticky residue. It ships with a protective tube and a basic installation kit so most hobbyists can get a smooth result quickly

  1. Jiyeswhy 5/5

    Huge help for breeding angelfish

Switched from a busy printed backdrop to this matte black film for my 20‑gallon angelfish breeding setup. The high contrast makes fry and adults easy to see and monitor. Application was mess-free thanks to the static cling, and the film trimmed to size for a clean, professional finish.

  2. Byrnes983 5/5

    Makes the tank look finished

This background really hides cords, filters and the wall behind the tank. I like that it can be repositioned without damage. Durable material and can cover multiple tanks if you cut it to size.

  3. bri 4/5

    Works great despite tiny bubbles

Fits my tank perfectly. It’s static-cling so a few small air pockets stayed after smoothing, but they’re not noticeable with my layout. Excellent blackout option.

  4. KPPmom 4/5

Good upgrade for a kid's tank

No strong smell and seems sturdy. Took patience to get it perfectly smooth, but overall a worthwhile improvement for my son's aquarium.

  5. Yanesi C. 5/5

    Easy to apply

Solid product — very straightforward to put on and it clings well to the glass.

  6. Paulis 5/5

    Truly dark and simple

Deep black finish and very easy to use. Gives a uniform look instantly.

  7. Michael W Turner 5/5

    Professional look without adhesives

Arrived rolled in a tube with tools. Lightly mist the glass, press the film in place and it clings instantly. The matte surface deepens the view, hides clutter and gives a clean backdrop for my displays.

  8. daUPhere 5/5

    Large roll and straightforward install

Comes as a big sheet so smaller aquariums can share the material. It’s essentially a vinyl film — use the included sprayer and squeegee, cut a bit oversized, wet the glass, apply, smooth, then trim and dry. I found the process quick and effective.
