Product description

Included item: an unstretched canvas roll measuring 63 inches wide by 6 feet long, pre-coated three times with acid-free gesso to yield a 12-ounce primed weight.

Material and weave: the fabric is 100% cotton with a medium grain and a durable weave designed to accept paint without excessive absorption. The triple-priming produces a bright white ground with improved adhesion for pigments and mediums.

Compatibility and use: the surface is prepared for acrylics, oils, watercolors, gouache, tempera, inks and markers — in short, both wet and dry applications. Because it comes on a bulk roll, you trim and stretch or mount sections to your preferred dimensions, making it well suited for studio projects, teaching studios, classroom work, painting parties, murals and oversized pieces.

Practical benefits: buying a roll gives flexibility in custom sizing and reduces the need to buy multiple pre-stretched canvases. The 12-ounce weight offers a sturdy feel once mounted, and the medium tooth balances detail work and broader techniques. Note that as an unstretched roll it requires cutting and stretching or mounting before final display.

Pros

  • Ready-to-use triple-primed surface
  • Flexible roll for custom sizing
  • Works with a wide range of media

Cons

  • May show light conveyor marks
  • Some prefer extra priming for heavy oils
  • Unstretched — requires cutting and stretching

VerdictThis triple-primed cotton canvas roll delivers a ready-to-use, bright ground with a reliable medium texture. It’s convenient for custom sizing and large work, and performs well with a broad range of wet and dry media. Some users may prefer an additional ground for heavy oil techniques, and light conveyor marks can appear on a few rolls, but overall it’s a practical, economical option for students,

Customer reviews

  1. MS 1/5

Better for practice than demanding professional work

Although labeled as three gesso layers, when I applied thinned oil it bled through. Suited more for beginners or non-critical work.

  2. Lynn 5/5

    High-quality material and flexible sizing

Plenty of canvas to work with. The surface quality is excellent and I can trim it to any size for my upcoming pieces.

  3. dlucas 5/5

    Reordered because it performs consistently

This was a repeat purchase — my earlier 63"×2yd roll arrived without defects. I later picked up the larger 63"×6yd roll and was pleased with the consistency and value. Recommend it.

  4. Louise Skidmore 5/5

    Exactly what I needed

Quick sale and the product matched my expectations — just what I was looking for.

  5. Adele 5/5

Reliable thickness and easy to handle

I buy this weight and brand regularly. No need to prime before stretching; I cut and wrap frames myself with no issues. The fabric doesn't fray and holds paint well — good value.

  6. Michael Stone 5/5

    Accurate width and even priming

Solid quality; the actual width was slightly over the spec and the gesso coverage was uniform. Not for my usual project, but I’m satisfied.

  7. S McLean 5/5

Smooth surface and easy to stretch

The texture is smooth enough to skip sanding and the thinner cloth stretches cleanly over stretcher bars with neater corners.

  8. Teresa A. Wilson 5/5

    Expected a stiffer unprimed base

I thought I’d receive plain 12-oz fabric to prime myself. It arrives triple-primed and is less rigid than I expected. I’m keeping it but had different expectations.

  9. Rojo 5/5

Excellent product at a great price

Excellent product at a very good price.

  10. Diana F. 5/5

    Satisfied with quality and delivery

Happy with the canvas and the fast delivery — overall pleased with the purchase.

  11. Gabriel Heater 4/5

Good overall but consider extra priming for oils

The 63" height suited my project. The cloth feels lighter than some primed canvases and showed faint conveyor marks. I painted unstretched with oils and saw slight warping that should straighten after stretching. Still a more affordable option than higher-end primed canvas.
