Product description

Each bag contains roughly 8.0 cubic feet of large, shaved pine flakes. The material is freshly cut pine that gives off a mild resinous aroma and is processed to reduce visible dust. The flakes are intentionally expanded and chunkier than fine shavings, so they provide a thicker layer and stronger coverage per bag.

Designed for use in show stalls and everyday stable bedding, these large flakes lay down quickly for broad coverage and help cushion hooves and limbs. They’re also commonly repurposed for chicken coops, rabbit hutches, and as carbon material for compost. The bags are produced for easier handling and transport — the expanded size means fewer bags are needed to cover the same area as fine shavings.

Pros

  • Strong coverage per bag
  • Low dust and absorbent
  • Fresh pine scent

Cons

  • Flakes are quite large for some uses
  • Bulk size may be overkill for small enclosures
  • Higher shipping or delivery cost compared to buying locally

VerdictThis large-flake shaved pine bedding delivers generous coverage and a fresh pine scent. The 8.0 cu ft expanded pack contains coarse, dust-minimized flakes that absorb moisture well and work across stables, coops, and small animal enclosures. Flake size may be too big for some small-animal uses, but for stalls and larger bedding areas it performs reliably. Overall a convenient option when you need

Customer reviews

  1. Arthur 5/5

    Solid quality, pricey to obtain

Same quality as feed-supply options, but more expensive once shipping is added. In remote areas the nearest source can be many miles away, which makes delivery an attractive but costly choice.

  2. Cindy 5/5

    Versatile for animals

I use these in my chicken coop and then add spent bedding to the compost pile — works well both as bedding and as garden carbon.

  3. Max Goodman 5/5

    Chickens prefer it

Used in the coop; hens consistently choose the areas with this bedding over other options.

  4. jesse hooper 5/5

    Very large flakes

Bought to line a rabbit hutch; the flakes are much larger than typical pine bedding. It's clean and low-dust, good quality, but the chunk size can be impractical for tiny enclosures. We repurposed the bag for the chicken coop and it worked well there.

  5. Sherri Sokolovich 5/5

    Perfect for my chickens

They work great inside the coop—very low dust and quite absorbent.

  6. Susie442 5/5

    Expensive but effective

Clearly large-flake pine shavings with virtually no dust and ideal for the coop. Cost is high; next time I'll source locally.

  7. Bex 5/5

    Did the job

Arrived when expected and helped control odor in my two-chicken coop. The bag lasted a long while; ordered during early COVID restrictions and was happy with the product. Would purchase again.
